Character Information
Character Name: Rung
Fandom: Transformers IDW Comics

Character History: Rung has been a psychologist and psychiatrist for eons now. He’s one of those figures who has been around practically since the beginning, but has never really played a big part in things. He’s been the therapist for people like Orion Pax, Whirl, Red Alert, and many, many others. Despite knowing so many people, and spending so much one-on-one time with each, people seem to forget who he is quite often. It’s likely because he’s not changed since he was first forged. In a society that’s taken to reformats and upgrades, always changing their appearance and making themselves stronger to compete in war, Rung has remained a visual constant, and so has almost kind of become part of the background.

Before the war started the Functionist who ran the planet weren’t sure what to make of Rung, he didn’t fit into their perfect little society where everyone had an alt-mode with the purpose, and that purpose determined what they did with their life. Only Rung’s alt didn’t seem to have a purpose, they even created a category just for him: ornament. In a sense that opened up a lot for him, he could be anything that didn’t require an alt. Psychiatrist it is!

War started, and Rung stuck to the side of the Autobots behind Orion Pax, soon to become Optimus Prime. Being more of a lover thinker than a fighter Rung stayed clear of the battles and stuck to areas such as medibays and the like, where he could be of use to traumatized patients. Not to say he can’t fight, he’s just not really built for it and stays out of it when possible.

Glossing over four million years, the war is now over! Autobots won! Yay! Instead of sticking around on Cybertron, though, Rung left with Rodimus and the crew of The Lost Light on their search for the Knights of Cybertron. Right away things went bad.

Without going into too much detail let’s just sum things up:
--Quantum generators exploded spilling out part of the crew onto some unknown planet.
--A sparkeater is discovered onboard. Rung is attacked, rescued, and then used as bait to draw this horror to a trap.
--After a quick stop by Delphi, Rung becomes the therapist for Fortress Maximus when the warden is finally brought out of a coma thanks to the daring thinking of Frist Aid. Fort Max then goes on a shooting spree and takes Rung and Whirl as hostages to demand The Lost Light head back to Cybertron. This standoff ends with Swerve accidentally shooting Rung’s head off.
--Rung spends the next so long in a coma like state of his own while his head is rebuilt. A small group get together at Swerve’s bar to help him make the final connections his brain module needs to make for him to actually make it through this trauma.
--Overlord escaped from a cell connected to the underside of The Lost Light. A number of people died and Ultra Magnus was fatally wounded.
--When Ultra Magnus’s soon-to-be corpse got up and took a small shuttle off the ship, they followed him through a portal to Luna 1, Cybertron’s legendary lost moon. Luna 1 turned out to be the current headquarters of Tyrest, a great law maker that had gone a little insane. Rung revealed a new acquaintance, Minimus Ambus, was actually a well-known friend, Ultra Magnus out of his armor. Aaaaand, they finally found what was left of the Circle of Light, their “clue” to finding the Knights of Cybertron. Tyrest’s plan to kill all the cold constructed Cybertronians is stopped, the Circle of Light is saved, the possibly-only space bridge to Cyberutopia and the Knights of Cybertron stops working, and they find cures for all kinds of incurable Cybertronian diseases. Too bad they couldn’t get the sparks from that hot spot in time.

And that’s when he’s going to find himself in a strange little city full of potential.

Character Personality: Rung is very personable and very approachable. Both of which are really good traits to have in a psychiatrist. He can be rather quiet and is very friendly. He has to be, it's kind of part of the job to put people at ease. This doesn't mean he always makes people happy. No, making people happy isn't the job, it's making people okay with who they are or what they've been through. Which means he's not afraid to say it like he sees it even if that means he upsets the one that needed to hear it. Might upset them now, but that's only because they know it's truth and will be a step closer to being at peace with themselves when they can accept that truth. He's not always right, but...comes pretty close more often than not.

Rung is also very smart. He's very observant of people and what they do. He may not be as skilled at cold reading someone as Nightbeat is, but he comes pretty close. What he does is he gets to know people, recognize habits and personality traits, those little things about each person that makes them...them. He'd spot a fake almost immediately......or be able to tell when a totally unassuming stranger is actually a much larger friend out of his armor... Again, it's his job to know people, to get inside their heads. He's be a scary piece of work if he ever became a bad guy.

And probably one of the more endearing things about him is that he's a bit of a geek. He collects models of all the arks that have left Cybertron, and likes to put them on display. He's not ashamed of it either, and people know this about him. He was even given one of his mini-ships to hold hug while his friends worked to get his brain working again. All-in-all Rung is smart, observant, approachable, friendly, geeky, and not afraid to speak the hard truth to those who need to hear it.

Powers and Abilities:
First off, before I forget to include this, Rung is, of course, a Cybertronian, which means he can transform. Is he likely to? No. Why? Because he doesn't really know what he turns into (no one does). No really, he's some kind of....pole like...thing...Swerve uses him as a club to take down some jerk on the ship. So yes...he can transform but isn't likely to.

He also carries a backpack-like unit on his back that turns into a Segway to get him around faster if walking just won't do and there's no other kind of transportation.

Also, being Cybertronian, Rung has all kinds of little gadgets built into him, like a datapad holder on a swing arm that wraps around from his back, a microphone in his thumb, and (so he claims) a LOT of hidden pockets (90% if he's to be believed). You never know what he's gotten hidden on his person.

Probably most importantly, though, would be his mind. As stated before, he's smart, cunning, observant of people and all the details about them, and would be make a scary bad guy if he weren't so nice.

[The feed comes on to show Rung sitting behind a desk. He's got a pleasant little smile on his face, and when he speaks his voice is gentle and soothing.]

Good day. For those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Rung, psychiatrist and psychotherapist.

We all know that finding yourself in a new place and so far from home and everyone you knew can be a very stressful experience. Such stress is only compounded by the strange things that happen here.

This is why I am opening an office for anyone that needs to work through the stresses getting to them. I've linked my coordinates below. Please don't hesitate to come see me if you need to talk about anything, my office is always open and any sessions will be completely confidential.

That is all.

[And have that link to his new office.]

Third Person:
He’d heard it all. He couldn’t respond, his mind and body just did not have the connections to allow him to comment on the story. He had been aware of everything, though. And he was trying! Not that there was much he could do. His brain module needed to make the necessary connections, and all he could do was wait and hope that something would trigger those connections.

They had been in at it for hours, each telling of the events they had been witness to, tying together into one big story. It was always amazing to see how lives connected, even if people didn’t realize they were connecting. Rung listened, it was all he could do, and as the story drew to a close his brain module still had not made the necessary connections. He would be on the edge of panic were it possible. He was on the edge of panic, he just couldn’t act on it. It hadn’t worked, he was trapped in his own head and if those connections weren’t made soon he’d not survive long. He didn’t want to die. He’d not survived this long, he’d not survived having his head blown off just to die a quiet death trapped in his own body.

And then the alarms started to go off. The group broke up, ready to head to where they needed to, not even sure yet what the alarm was for. Skids was supposed to take him back to the medbay. Instead Skids knelt before him, looking into his optics, hands resting on his shoulders. He said he was going to try something, but what?

“Hey, Eyebrows. It’s me. I shouldn’t call you eyebrows, should I?”

I’d prefer it if you didn’t. He wished he could respond, but even thinking the words was a big help.

“It’s not very respectful. From now on, it’s Ring-- I mean Rang.

Oh for Primus’ sake! Really?! He knew Skids had memory issues he was dealing with, but that just meant that the mech should have plenty of space in his head for remembering a simple name!

“It is Rang, isn’t it? Rang as in bell?”

He felt it. Something in his brain module gave a jolt and he nearly shuddered at the flow of sudden sensation washing through his processor from his body. It still took effort to form words, to make his mouth move as he wanted. The connection was weak, but it was there. Rung could move again, and he was going to be okay!

Even as he spoke he watched the smile spread across Skid’s face, and he knew right then he’d done it on purpose. Never in his life had he been so happy for someone to get his name wrong.

“It’s... Rung.” Rung’s voice was soft as he forced the words out through a mouth that still didn’t quite want to open. ”Forever.”
