IN CHARACTER
Name: Rung
Canon: Transformers (IDW comics)
Canon Point: Sometime before Froid shows up to screw with Skids' head and Rung decides he can't be ship psychiatrist anymore.
Age: At least six million...he's old man bot.

History: Probably way more than you ever wanted to know about an orange toothpick

Personality: Rung is very personable and very approachable. Both of which are really good traits to have in a psychiatrist. He can be rather quiet and is very friendly. He has to be, it's kind of part of the job to put people at ease. This doesn't mean he always makes people happy. No, making people happy isn't the job, it's making people okay with who they are or what they've been through. Which means he's not afraid to say it like he sees it even if that means he upsets the one that needed to hear it. Might upset them now, but that's only because they know it's truth and will be a step closer to being at peace with themselves when they can accept that truth. He's not always right, but...comes pretty close more often than not.

Rung is also very smart. He's very observant of people and what they do. He may not be as skilled at cold reading someone as Nightbeat is, but he comes pretty close. What he does is he gets to know people, recognize habits and personality traits, those little things about each person that makes them...them. He'd spot a fake almost immediately......or be able to tell when a totally unassuming stranger is actually a much larger friend out of his armor... Again, it's his job to know people, to get inside their heads. He's be a scary piece of work if he ever became a bad guy.

And probably one of the more endearing things about him is that he's a bit of a geek. He collects models of more like builds them himself all the arks that have left Cybertron, and likes to put them on display. He's not ashamed of it either, and people know this about him. He was even given one of his mini-ships to hold hug while his friends worked to get his brain working again. Little did anyone realize that his geekery has a purpose, as they're all remote controlled mini-guns...but whatever, right? All-in-all Rung is smart, observant, approachable, friendly, geeky, and not afraid to speak the hard truth to those who need to hear it.

Contracts: Rung would be quite agreeable to a contract. Better to work than do nothing, and this way he'd possibly have the option of going back some day. In any case, he'd not only be willing, but would even present the fact that he's been a psychiatrist and psychologist (and yes, there is a difference) for about six million years. If such a job is open on the ship, he'd certainly be willing to take it. Otherwise he's willing to work where needed.

Abilities/Skills: First off, before I forget to include this, Rung is, of course, a Cybertronian, which means he can transform. Is he likely to? No. Why? Because he doesn't really know what he turns into (no one does). No really, he's some kind of....pole like...thing...Swerve uses him as a club to take down some jerk on the ship. So yes...he can transform but isn't likely to.

He also carries a backpack-like unit on his back that turns into a Segway to get him around faster if walking just won't do and there's no other kind of transportation.

Also, being Cybertronian, Rung has all kinds of little gadgets built into him, like a datapad holder on a swing arm that wraps around from his back, a microphone in his thumb, and (so he claims) a LOT of hidden pockets (90% if he's to be believed). You never know what he's gotten hidden on his person.

Probably most importantly, though, would be his mind. As stated before, he's smart, cunning, observant of people and all the details about them, and would be make a scary bad guy if he weren't so nice.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Keen mind, fast thinker, innovative, people person, observant, kind, not a pushover, knows what to say and when to say it.
Weaknesses: Small, physically weak, a bit self depricating (hidden guiiiilllt) though not where others are likely to see/here

Items: Various small tools built into him, the Segway on his back, and those goggle-like glasses that may or may not have any actual use.

[The feed comes on to show Rung sitting behind a desk. He's got a pleasant little smile on his face, and when he speaks his voice is gentle and soothing.]

Good day. For those of you who do not know me yet, my name is Rung, the new psychiatrist and psychotherapist on board the Moira.

We all know that finding yourself in a new place, so far from home and everyone you knew, can be a very stressful experience. I am here to try to make this transition easier to cope with.

Please don't hesitate to come see me if you need to talk about anything, my office is always open and any sessions will be completely confidential.

That is all.

Prose/Action Sample:
He'd heard it all. He couldn't respond, his mind and body just did not have the connections to allow him to comment on the story. He had been aware of everything, though. And he was trying! Not that there was much he could do. His brain module needed to make the necessary connections, and all he could do was wait and hope that something would trigger those connections.

They had been in at it for hours, each telling of the events they had been witness to, tying together into one big story. It was always amazing to see how lives connected, even if people didn't realize they were connecting. Rung listened, it was all he could do, and as the story drew to a close his brain module still had not made the necessary connections. He would be on the edge of panic were it possible. He was on the edge of panic, he just couldn't act on it. It hadn't worked, he was trapped in his own head and if those connections weren't made soon he'd not survive long. He didn't want to die. He'd not survived this long, he'd not survived having his head blown off just to die a quiet death trapped in his own body.

And then the alarms started to go off. The group broke up, ready to head to where they needed to, not even sure yet what the alarm was for. Skids was supposed to take him back to the medbay. Instead Skids knelt before him, looking into his optics, hands resting on his shoulders. He said he was going to try something, but what?

"Hey, Eyebrows. It's me. I shouldn't call you eyebrows, should I?"

I'd prefer it if you didn't. He wished he could respond, but even thinking the words was a big help.

"It's not very respectful. From now on, it's Ring-- I mean Rang."

Oh for Primus' sake! Really?! He knew Skids had memory issues he was dealing with, but that just meant that the mech should have plenty of space in his head for remembering a simple name!

"It is Rang, isn't it? Rang as in bell?"

He felt it. Something in his brain module gave a jolt and he nearly shuddered at the flow of sudden sensation washing through his processor from his body. It still took effort to form words, to make his mouth move as he wanted. The connection was weak, but it was there. Rung could move again, and he was going to be okay!

Even as he spoke he watched the smile spread across Skid's face, and he knew right then he'd done it on purpose. Never in his life had he been so happy for someone to get his name wrong.

"It's... Rung." Rung's voice was soft as he forced the words out through a mouth that still didn't quite want to open. "Forever."
